Just as we predicted last autumn, Mitel are all set to merge with Polycom (in quarter three this year) to massively enhance their communications and collaboration offering in the enterprise market.
The $1.96 billion acquisition will create a technology powerhouse worth $2.5 billion with a 7,700 strong international workforce. The company will retain the Mitel brand name and also their headquarters in Ottawa, while enjoying the benefits of Polycom's global presence and industry-leading portfolio.
Mitel are now in an even stronger position to revolutionise their clients’ business operations as they combine their strengths in voice communications with Polycom’s flair in video collaboration and conferencing facilities.
"Mitel has a simple vision - to provide seamless communications and collaboration to customers (…) across any device and any environment (…) the combined company will have the talent and technology needed to truly deliver integrated solutions to businesses and service providers across enterprise, mobile and cloud environments."
Richard McBee, Mitel CEO (cited in recent Mitel Press Release)
The new company will not only bring a revitalised super communications offering to their clients through a combined wealth of skills and expertise, but they will also be able to offer a superior integrated technology experience through their vast partner network.
As the main industry leader, they will safely be able to boast #1 market position in business cloud communications, IP/PBX extensions (in Europe), conference phones and Open SIP sets; and #2 position in video conferencing and installed audio.
Together they have an enviable and proven reputation with installations in more than 82% of Fortune 500 companies, with mobile deployments in 47 of the world's top 50 economies, and a combined portfolio of more than 2,100 patents and more than 500 patents pending. A winning formula in the telecommunications world of the future!
