Solar Achieves Government Security Standard

By : Peter Davies / 29 June, 2018 /

We are pleased to announce we have recently achieved the Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

Cyber Essentials Plus

The Cyber Essentials scheme, which was launched by the UK Government in 2014 and is part of the Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy, involves an independent assessment of security controls that businesses need to have in place to mitigate risks from common cyber threats.

The scheme mandates five key controls that must be implemented for certification: secure configuration, boundary firewalls and Internet gateways, access control and administrative privilege management, patch management, and malware protection.
To achieve Cyber Essentials certification, a self-assessment questionnaire, verified by an external certification body and an external vulnerability scan were required. However, Cyber Essentials Plus certification requires a more advanced level of assurance. In addition to the requirements for Cyber Essentials, solar also were required to undergo an on-site assessment and internal scan conducted by the certification body.

Solar Chief Technology Officer, Sean Lowry, commented: “This Government-endorsed standard is a fantastic opportunity to help improve cyber resilience in the UK; We are pleased to support it and proud to have achieved the Cyber Essentials Plus certificate. As a business, Solar are focused on doing the right thing to protect our customers from today’s cyber threats and this is another step on that journey.”

This latest certificate goes hand in hand with other accreditations held by Solar, having already attained ISO 27001, 20000, 9001 and 14001. These global standards further demonstrate Solar’s commitment to comply with regulatory and contractual requirements regarding data security, privacy and IT governance, and the security of sensitive and confidential information.

By taking part in this Cyber Essential assessment, we hope to demonstrated to customers and partners that we’re taking vital precautions to combat today’s internet-borne threats.
